5 out of 5 stars A perfect book for the average ACD pet owner   June 11, 1999
23 out of 26 found this review helpful

This book is aimed at the person who owns or plans to own an Australian Cattle Dog as a household pet and companion. It thoroughly covers all aspects of care and training necessary for ACDs living in those circumstances. The book does not purport itself as a training book for professional livestock owner. Those who use this book as a companion guide find it fits the bill beautifully--Richard G. Beauchamp, author.

I own over 100 head of cattle and pursched me a youg Blue Heller to train and thought this book was what I needed. No where in the book was there any help on how to train for livestock handling.

5 out of 5 stars thoughful and informative   January 30, 1999
Describes my half breed ACD to a tee. He demands time, time, and more time but the rewards are as great as the book states. I have found a rubber ball that squeaks can keep him happy for hours fetching and running. This book has taught me training ideas I have never seen before and in just one week I can see the results.

5 out of 5 stars We bought our first Aussie after reading this book!   December 31, 1998

We bought all the books on the breeds that we found attractive to see if our personalties would mesh. Since we had plenty of time to devote to a dog (recommended for the Aussie) we went ahead and bought our puppy from a breeder in Texas. This book could have been written for our "Barbie" (Knollwood Shrimp on the Barbie). She is every bit as good and as naughty as Mr. Beauchamp's book says an Aussie can be.

4 out of 5 stars Really good for person thinking about purchasing an ACD.   April 15, 1998

We were thinking of buying an Australian Cattle Dog after seeing them work on a ranch while we were on vacation. The dogs are extremely smart and we liked their looks but realizing how much time and attention they needed changed our minds because of our work situation at this time. We decided to wait another year when one of us would be home at all times. This book tells about what the dog is really like and how it should be trained and treated.Lots of breed books we read only told the plus features of the breeds and not what to be careful of.
